Travelling with toddlers and teens might sound too hard or no fun or scary, but it's wonderful, for you and your children. Just try it - you'll love it!

Switzerland, Austria, Greece and Turkey

2014 - To Switzerland, Austria, Greece and Turkey

This was a new style of trip for me - not taking all the kids. My daughter J at 16 was begging for Europe, D at 13 was indifferent but I knew he'd like it and S at nine years old - I knew
he'd much prefer a camping trip in the Rocky Mountains with his dad. So I booked tickets for three.

Travel with teens is different - they are much more interested in where we go and what we see, they know stuff that I don't and it pops up when you least expect it, and if they get at least an hour of wifi a day plus good food, they are happy.

Our itinerary - Switzerland for a few days, through Liechtenstein, a day at castles in Germany, almost a week in Austria in Salzburg and Vienna, fly to Athens for three days, three days exploring the Greek countryside, fly to Turkey to see Ephesus, another set of flights to interior to experience Cappadocia, then four days in Istanbul.

Summary - 24 days, seven flights, 12 different types of transportation, seven beautiful roof-top terraces/balconies with a view.

Ages - 16 and 13.

Highlights - the Alps, the castles in Germany, beautiful Salzburg, the galleries of Vienna, standing on top of the Acropolis, a sunrise hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia, standing between the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
